Johnson City, TN (PRWEB) February 08, 2013

A workplace injury that happens this year will account for 10 percent of the cost of medical benefits more than 20 years in the future, according to a study conducted by the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI), which was released by the NCCI i n January 2013 and reported on by Occupational Health & Safety (Jan. 28, 2013). Specifically, the NCCI reported it is likely that more than 10% of the cost of medical benefits for the workplace injuries that occur this year will be for services provided more than two decades into the future.

Dealing with the long-term costs associated with workplace injuries has been the focus of Tennessee workplace injury attorneys at the Meade Injury Law Group for decades. Many people might not realize how a single workplace injury can affect someone for the rest of his or her life, attorney Evan Meade said today. If someone slips and falls at work or falls from a height at a construction site, they could incur an injury that permanently affects their health.

Some insurance companies understand this situation. But many times, many insurance companies will do everything they can to keep payments to a minimum or simply deny them, and thats not fair.

The NCCI study was based on services provided to injured workers between Jan. 1, 2009 and April 1, 2011 for medical services provided within 20 years of the injury, the study states. The creators of the NCCI study found that the percentage of the cost of medical benefits associated with services provided more than 20 years after a workplace injury has been growing and might continue to grow, the NCCI report states.

Perhaps the most revealing finding concerned medications, home health services and orthotic devices. According to the authors of the NCCI study, 20 to 30 years after a workplace injury, these three items and related supplies accounted for the largest share of the costs for workplace injuries than compared to the first 20 years after an injury for these same items, NCCI reports.

Trying to hold a company you didnt work for accountable for your medical expenses and other financial matters 20 years after a workplace injury accident can sometimes be almost impossible, according to Johnson City workers comp lawyer Meade, of the Meade Injury Law Group. Thats why the Johnson City, Tennessee-based law firm works relentlessly right after an accident to secure enough money to cover the true cost of someones injuries throughout his or her lifetime.
